  • Year 2, 3 and 4 returning back to school

    Mon 29 Jun 2020

    Morning everyone,

We are hoping to welcome back our pupils from years 2, 3 and 4 before the end of term. The first step in planning for that is establishing how many children from these year groups will attend. Mrs Flowers will be sending a text to the parents in years 2.3 and 4 today asking for a simple yes or no answer to the question of whether you would like your child to come back to school. The cut off point for an answer will be 11am on Wednesday 1st July. This will allow us to plan for the w/c 6th July.

As always, I will keep you informed of our plans as soon as they are finalised.

  • Planning for w/c 22nd June 2020

    Thu 18 Jun 2020

    Afternoon everyone,

We have completed the planning for next week. Mrs Flowers will ring the parents of those children whose times will change next week, or are returning for the first time. If you do not hear from her, that means your child's times remain the same.

    Stay safe.

  • FSM vouchers

    Wed 17 Jun 2020

    Afternoon everyone,

I want to clarify some issues that are arising in terms of Free School meal vouchers. School has been informed that if a child attends school, and is entitled to free school meals, they must have a meal in school. They are not entitled to a voucher if the family chooses to send them with a packed lunch.

Children are entitled to the voucher if they attend school for part of the week. For example, many of our children are currently attending school for four days a week. They would therefore be entitled to one voucher a week.

If you would like any guidance on FSM vouchers, please contact Zoe.Flowers@burford.nottingham.sch.uk

  • Update on welcoming F1, F2 and Year 5 children back to school

    Mon 15 Jun 2020
    Hi everyone,

I hope you’ve all had a good weekend.

As promised, I will try to keep you ‘in the loop’ as much as possible regarding our plans for wider re-opening. As always, these plans are very much provisional and subject to change. As you know, we welcomed back our Y6 pupils on the 8th June. This proved to be a great success and allowed us to bring forward our re-opening plans for our Y1 pupils. Our Y1 pupils will join us on Thursday 18th June. If this goes well, we hope to welcome back our F1 and F2 pupils on Monday 29th June. Eight parents in F1 have indicated that they would like their child to return on the 29th. Eight parents in F2 have done the same. We will plan with these numbers in mind unless told otherwise (parents have until 11am on Wednesday 24th June to change their mind). Mrs Flowers will contact these sixteen parents tomorrow to establish if they still want their child to return to school.

We also plan to welcome back our Y5 pupils on the 6th July. That will mean our Y6 pupils returning to learning from home (Ms Chapleo has lots of exciting plans in place for these children and will no doubt tell you soon). Mrs Flowers will be ringing our Y5 parents tomorrow to get an indication of how many children will be returning.

I hope that the information above gives you some clarity on school’s provisional plans for the next few weeks.

  • Updated Privacy Notice - Transform Trust Coronavirus

    Fri 12 Jun 2020
  • Year 1 returning Thursday 18th June 2020

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

    Hello everyone,

Our wider opening to Y6 has gone really well this week and has been as close to seamless as I could have wished for. As things have gone so well, the senior leadership team and I have decided to bring forward the date for when we welcome back our Y1 children to the Thursday 18th June. All the plans are in place to make that a success and have been agreed with the trust. Mrs Flowers is in the process of ringing those parents affected.

If your child has been in school this week, Mrs Flowers will only ring you if your child's times have changed for next week (most have not).

Can I assure you that, as we have done with the return of our Y6 children, we will constantly review our procedures to ensure all our children, and staff, are as safe as possible.

    Have a great weekend.

    Shaun

  • Collection times

    Thu 11 Jun 2020

    Hello everyone,

I appreciate some of you have children who finish at slightly different times because of our staggered finish to the day. To ensure all our children are as safe as possible, and so they get the most out their time in school, we will dismiss them at the time their class finishes. I realise this might mean some parents having to wait a short time but please bear with us.

  • Phase 1 has been a great success!

    Tue 09 Jun 2020

    Morning everyone,

I hope I'm not tempting fate by saying this but the return of our year 6 pupils has gone/is going really well. Hurrah!

If you are a parent of a Y6 child and originally said no to them returning, remember you can change your mind. If you want to do that, you must ring school by 11am this Wednesday if you want your child in school next week. The reason we have set this time limit is to give us time to plan staffing and room usage (it sounds simple but is anything but).

If you said yes to your child coming back to school we will assume they will continue attending unless we hear otherwise.

    Take care,

    Mr Farrington

  • Re-opening update

Fri 05 Jun 2020 Mr Farrington

    Hi everyone,

As promised, I will update you my current thinking around re-opening and for plans going forward as often as I can. I must warn you, though, that these thoughts and plans are provisional and can change depending on local and national issues.

I intend to use next week to assess whether our procedures are robust enough to safely accommodate the extension of opening to our year 6 pupils. I will meet my senior leadership team on Thursday 11th June to reflect on what we have learnt and to discuss if we are in a position to open to other year groups. The year groups given priority by the government are F1, F2 and Year 1. We will reflect on whether we can open to some, all or none of these groups. Our rationale will be simple – is it safe? If the answer is yes, we will start planning. The first step in that process will be to update our risk assessment and then submit it to the trust executive. Our risk assessment will be scrutinised by the trustees who have the ultimate say on whether we can extend re-opening or not. When the trustees give us permission to extend re-opening, we will then start contacting parents, and staff, directly affected.

As I am sure you can appreciate, this process will take some time meaning the earliest we will extend opening to some, or all, of F1, F2 and Y1 is w/c 22nd June.

As a trust, we have made a collective decision to plan to welcome back our Y5 pupils w/c 6th July. That will mean our Y6 pupils will return to remote learning at home. We are keen to mark the Year 6’s time at Burford and have commissioned a film maker to produce a Y6 graduation film. Watch this space for more details.

Some of your minds may be drifting towards the summer holidays and wondering what is likely to be happening. As things stand, the school will be closed.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Mr Farrington
