Science
At Burford, we want to ignite our children’s curiosity, encouraging them to be inquisitive about their local and global community - and the universe beyond! We inspire and excite our children, fostering a thirst for scientific knowledge and broadening horizons.
Our curriculum provides enriching opportunities to bring the scientific disciplines to life through practical, enquiry-based learning, encouraging our children to think and work “like scientists”. We are aspirational and provide role models, we explicitly contradict unhelpful stereotypes, we promote STEM careers and we raise awareness of how they can be achieved. We prepare for the future. We have created a safe environment in which all of our children are encouraged to ask questions, take risks, experiment, reflect, and make mistakes and learn from them. This allows children to gain and apply core knowledge, develop scientific skills and an awareness of the scientific method, and begin to appreciate the usefulness of Science. At primary school, we pave the way for them to be confident, life-long learners who are equipped with the necessary skills to access careers not yet imagined, and who are better able to make informed decisions about the ever-developing future in a world of possibilities.
