  • Breakfast and After School Club from September 2020

    Tue 21 Jul 2020

    Hello everyone,

I am really pleased to announce that we will be able to open both the Breakfast, and After school, clubs from the beginning of the autumn term. I have attached a letter giving further details in the Newsletter section of the website.

As promised, we will also be emailing all parents tomorrow with details of start and finish times for September. At first sight, the letter you receive will look complicated but I am confident that after the first day in September everything will be fine. If you feel anxious after reading the letter, please contact the ladies in the school office who will be happy to help.

    Have a lovely evening,

    Mr Farrington

  • Summer Learning Booklets

    Thu 16 Jul 2020

    FANTASTIC SUMMER LEARNING BOOKLETS!

    Hello everyone,

We have something exciting to announce!

The Transform Trust team have put together some BRILLIANT summer learning booklets to keep our children busy during the summer holidays and to help them to prepare for September.

The booklets are based on ‘short-burst’ tasks for wellbeing, reading, writing, maths and physical activities.

    Animal Themes

Reading and writing tasks are based around an theme. We have chosen an animal focus to enable the development of background knowledge and vocabulary which will then support the children with the linked writing tasks. Here are the themes for each year group:

    • Year 1 – Foxes (including the poem The Vulture)
    • Year 2 – Worms (including the story of Anansi and the Turtle)
    • Year 3 – Birds
    • Year 4 – Woodland Animals
    • Year 5 – Wolves

The animal theme will also help to promote discussion amongst families with siblings in different year groups. Each booklet has a focus on non-fiction, fiction and poetry and there will be linked QR codes so children can hear audio recordings of the texts read by members of the Transform Trust team.

The booklets have been based around the expectations for your child’s current year group with a view to them moving to the year group above.

    Twitter

Transform will be launching a Twitter campaign to promote the Summer Learning Booklets and will be encouraging parents & carers to share their child’s learning via @TransformTrust using #TransformSummer.

    HOW TO GET ONE!

We will hand these booklets out to children who are in school.

Parents/carers will need to collect these booklets for children who are not in school during one of the following slots:

    • Year 1 and Year 2 - 9.40 and 10.40
    • Year 3 and Year 4 - 10.50 and 11.50
    • Year 5 and Year 6 - 12 - 13.00

Please maintain social distancing (you may wish to bring a mask for while you are waiting) and wait at the school gates where packs will be brought out to you once you have rung the bell.

Please note: no adults, other than staff, are allowed past the blue gate and onto the school grounds.

If you cannot collect this pack for any reason, please contact our school office by the end of the school day on Friday 17.07.20 so that alternative arrangements may be made.

  • Free School Meals during the Summer holidays

    Thu 16 Jul 2020

    Hello everyone,

During Covid-19, the government have been providing those children who are entitled to Free School Meals with a weekly meal voucher. The good news is that this will continue during the summer holidays. Mrs Flowers has applied for these vouchers today and eligible families should receive their Free School Meal voucher by next Thursday/Friday. This voucher is to cover you from Monday 27th July 2020 until we return back to school on Tuesday 1st September 2020. Your voucher will be worth £75.00 per child. The voucher will be sent to the email address that school has on file for you.

For families with multiple children, you will receive a separate email voucher for each child (e.g. a family of 3 children will receive 3 separate emails containing a £75.00 voucher in each email). You redeem the voucher as you have done previously. All of the information that you need is detailed in the email that will be sent out by Edenred containing your voucher.

Vouchers do not have to be redeemed in a single shopping trip. They can be used repeatedly until the voucher’s balance reaches £0.00, so please do not delete the voucher until you are happy that you have spent the full balance. To check how much money is left on the eGift card, families can ask the supermarket’s customer services team when in store.

If you would like to read more information about how to redeem your meal voucher, you can do so by copying and pasting this link in your web browser:

    https://www.edenred.co.uk/Documents/DfE/DfE_FSM-voucher-scheme_Parent-Carer-Userguide.pdf

As the school office will be closed from Monday 27th July 2020, if you have any queries regarding your Free School Meal voucher, you can contact Edenred direct by emailing them at freeschoolmealsparentscarers@edenred.com. Should you have any questions before then, please contact Mrs Flowers by email at Zoe.Flowers@burford.nottingham.sch.uk

    Thank you,

    Mr Farrington

  • School Reports 2020

    Wed 15 Jul 2020

    Morning everyone,

Class teachers have written end of year school reports for all children in school. These reports cover the first two terms of the academic year. Similarly, the attendance percentage runs from September till lock down.

To avoid unnecessary contact, and so ensure everyone's safety, most reports will be emailed to parents. They will be password protected. You will be given guidance on how to open your report in the email you receive. Mrs Flowers will start to email reports today but, as you can imagine, this is a big job and will take a little while. She will send a text to all parents when the last report has been sent. Please contact her after that should you not have received your child's report.

We know some people will not have an email address or internet connectivity. Mrs Flowers will contact these parents direct and organise collection of paper copies.

After reading your child's report, should you have any comments please contact your child's teacher through their class dojo page. If this is not possible, please ring school and a message will be passed to your child's teacher.

    Best wishes,

    Mr Farrington

  • Plans for September 2020

    Tue 14 Jul 2020

    Afternoon everyone,

I know many of you are keen to know what our plans are for September. We have well developed plans (e.g. new timetables, etc) but are waiting on one decision that needs to be made by all the headteachers in the trust. This will be made on Friday 17th July. I will then meet my senior leadership team to finalise our plans and brief our team.   We will aim to publicise these plans with you on Wednesday 22nd July.

The issue that is causing us most concern is Breakfast and After School clubs. As a working parent, with a wife who is also a teacher, I know how crucial wrap around care is. As a family, we have found it incredibly hard since lock down to manage work and child care (our youngest is in Year 5). However, as a Headteacher I need to balance that with the risks that opening Breakfast, and after School clubs, will bring. You will see when we publicise our plans that we will have staggered start and finish times, as will all schools in the country. We will also keep each class separate from one another for the whole day to minimise the risk of the virus spreading. Much of that effort will go to waste if we then have children from multiple year groups in these clubs.

To help me plan for these clubs, I really need to know how many parents would need to use them. This will help me to understand how feasible it is to open them. We must also make you aware that, as a result of the new measures, there may be an increase in the hourly cost of these clubs, though we will not know the precise amount until we have ascertained numbers. The increase in cost may be incurred through the employment of additional staff to keep groups smaller.

If you would like to access the clubs in order to remain employed, and have no other options in the short term, could you email me at headteacher@burford.nottingham.sch.uk by 9am on 20th July 2020.

    Thank you,

    Mr Farrington

  • Provision for next week (w/c 13th July 2020)

    Thu 09 Jul 2020
    Morning everyone,

I hope you're all well despite the weather.

The senior leadership team and I looked at plans for next week last night. I can confirm that all groups remain the same and that all start and finish times do as well. We will also return to school being closed to everyone apart from the children of key workers on a Wednesday.

Mrs Flowers will ring those parents today who asked for their children to join us next week.

It is highly likely that pans will stay the same for the final week of term but we will confirm that next Thursday.

If you would like your child to join us for the last week of term you will need to contact school by 11am next Wednesday.

As well as planning for next week, we also began discussing plans for September. They are only in their infancy at the moment but we intend to finalise them by the end of term and will share them with you as soon as we can.

    Best wishes,

    Mr Farrington
  • Provision for w/c 13th July 2020

    Wed 08 Jul 2020

    Hello everyone,

If your child is currently accessing a school place, we  will assume you want your child to continue attending unless you tell us otherwise.

    Thanks

    Mr Farrington

  • Confirmed days for next week

    Tue 07 Jul 2020

    Morning everyone,

I should have also re-confirmed in my last message that from next week onwards, we will revert back to being closed to most pupils on a Wednesday. The only reason we changed this week was to give staff time to plan for the wider re-opening. As we were closed on Monday of this week, we will be open to all pupils tomorrow i.e. Wednesday.

    Stay safe

    Mr Farrington

  • Welcome back Years 2, 3 and 4

    Tue 07 Jul 2020

    Morning everyone,

It was lovely welcoming back so many children today. Apart from a few teething problems, everything seemed to go well. One thing that would help, though, is if parents came just five minutes before their scheduled drop off times. We had loads of really enthusiastic parents who were here quite some time before their drop off time. Whilst I commend this level of enthusiasm it did lead to some quite big queues that could help the virus spread. It would be great if we could avoid this in the future.

Thinking further ahead, I am confident the drop off, and pick up, times will stay consistent now till the end of the summer term. As always, Miss Ashurst will confirm that on Thursday morning.

If you would like your child to join us next week, please contact the school office before 11am

    Stay safe,

    Mr Farrington

  • Update on provision from next week

    Thu 02 Jul 2020

    Hi everyone,

I can confirm that we will be able to open to those children in years 2,3 and 4 whose parents indicated they want to come back to school. Our plans are still being developed but I can be clear about a couple of things:

The school will close Monday 6th July, rather than Wednesday, to allow us time to plan, and organise the school for these extra children. As normal, though, we will remain open for the children of key workers and vulnerable children all week, including Monday.

This means the school will be open from the 7th July to pupils in F1, F2, Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 whose parents have confirmed they will be attending. We cannot accept any other children on the day.

Our plans will be finalized by Friday morning. Mrs Flowers will contact all parents affected to confirm opening/closing times, as well as entrance points.

Moving forward, if you want your child to return to school you must contact school by 11am on the Wednesday before you want them to return. We will try our best to accommodate these requests but I must warn you that we are very close to capacity and may have to say no. Similarly, if you have said you want your child to come to school but your child fails to attend without good reason, I will have to withdraw the place if another child is on the waiting list.

    Mr Farrington
