‘Attend’ is one of the three verbs that we have chosen to comprise our school motto for a reason. We want our children to be motivated to come to school every day, ready, and on time so that they can grab every learning opportunity offered with both hands! We also want to help them to develop conscientious life-long skills: punctuality, reliability and consistency.

We therefore have high expectations for every pupil’s attendance - and this begins in Nursery! We expect that our children have at least 98% attendance to be an Attendance HERO (Here Everyday, Ready, and On time!). Our Attendance Leader - with a little help from our pupil leaders! - has designed some motivating incentives which encourage and celebrate these qualities (including those who have made an effort to improve). We record attendance data rigorously so that we can spot patterns, identify trends and anomalies, and offer timely support and challenge for families who may need it.

We ensure that our curriculum is engaging and supportive so that children are excited to come to school and feel that they can be successful. We communicate our clear expectation that children are Here Everyday, Ready, and On time so that our whole community is clear about our shared goal. We adopt a similar approach to attendance as we do to safeguarding: we make it ‘everyone’s business, all the time’.
