  • Covid case in Year 5

Wed 14 Jul 2021 Shaun Farrington

    Morning again,

I’m afraid that I was told mid-morning that a child in Year 5 has tested positive. That means the children in Year 5 are currently being sent home, along with the Y5 staff team. They will have to isolate and can return to school on Friday 23rd July.

I am sure you will join me in wishing all the children and staff in Year 5 al the very best for the next few days.

  • News on September opening

Wed 14 Jul 2021 Shaun Farrington

    Morning all,

I hope you are all well and are enjoying the weather.

I thought it would be useful to update you on the current thinking for what school will look like in September. We are putting the finishing touches on the last few issues and will confirm the following:

I will release a class list tomorrow so you will know who your child is being taught by.

A video message will be circulated next week outlining start and finish times (we hope to move away from staggered starts and finish times), as well as general expectations.

As mentioned previously, we are trialing video, rather than written, end of year reports this summer. They will be sent to you by the 23rd July.

    Best wishes

    Mr Farrington

  • Year 2 closed because of positive Covid cases

Sun 04 Jul 2021 Shaun Farrington

    Morning all,

I am afraid that I have just found out that two children in Year 2 have tested positive for Covid. The children in that class will have to self isolate until Sunday 11th July, meaning they can come back to school on Monday 12th July. Miss Davis will post work for the entire isolation period. She will be in touch with Y2 parents separately about that.

If you have a child in Y2, with siblings in other year groups, the siblings can still come to school.

I am hoping, as happened with the closure of Year 4 recently, that we can minimize the closure to one year group only. We will endeavour to do that by closely following the Covid procedures we currently have in school.

    Best wishes,

    Mr Farrington

  • Inset dates for 2021/22

Thu 01 Jul 2021 Shaun Farrington

    Afternoon all,

As always, I am keen to give you as much notice as possible about forthcoming inset days. We have planned our first two, plus I have details about a trust wide inset day. They are:

Tuesday 31st August and Wednesday 1st September. This means the children will return to school on Thursday 2nd September.

Friday 17th September - trust wide inset.

I hope this notice gives you plenty of time to plan for child care. There will be one further school based inset day during 2021/22. We have not scheduled that yet but will give you as much notice as possible. Similarly, there may also be another trust inset. I will be in contact as soon as that is confirmed.

I am keen to front load staff training to the beginning of the year so your children get the benefit for the rest of the year.

    Best wishes,

    Mr Farrington

  • Positive COVID case in Y4

Sun 20 Jun 2021 Shaun Farrington

    Good afternoon all,

I'm sorry to message on a Sunday afternoon but I am afraid to say that I have been informed that a child in Year 4 has tested positive for Covid. That means the Y4 class will all need to self-isolate until the end of the day on the 28th June. That means they can come back to school on the 29th June. Miss VG will post work on Seesaw from tomorrow.

If you have a child in Y4, and have a sibling in another year group, the sibling can still come to school unless they display any Covid symptoms (continuous cough, loss of smell and or taste, high temperature). If they do display symptoms, you must organise a test (the school office can help advise on how to do that if you are unsure) for them and keep them off school until you receive the results.

All staff members who have had close contact with Y4 (teacher, TA and dinner time supervisor) also need to self-isolate. Our Y4 dinnertime colleague also works in the After School Club. This means the ASC will be closed until the 29th June. As a working parent, I do know the difficulties this causes. However, I have made this decision to try and minimize any spread in school and so avoid any more classes having to self-isolate.

To complicate matters further, I have just taken my youngest daughter for a test because she has developed a cough. That means I will have to self-isolate until her test results are known. Ms Chapleo, Deputy Headteacher, will be in school tomorrow and will be available to answer any questions, as will the office staff. I am also contactable via my email on headteacher@burford.nottingham.sch.uk

I hope this all makes sense, and gives you enough time to make arrangements, if you are one of the parents directly affected.

    Best wishes,

    Mr Farrington

  • Lateness to School

    Wed 05 May 2021 S Harding

As you know, many of our children have lost a lot of learning time because of lock down. This issue is being compounded for some of our children because they are regularly late. Did you know, arriving 10 minutes late everyday means that 33 hours of learning is lost each year. This is the same as missing 2 weeks of school!

I monitor attendance and lateness. There are an increasing number of children arriving late everyday. Not only is this having a significant impact on the children who are late but also on their classmates because their teachers needs to re-explain learning to the latecomers, meaning they have less time for the other children in class.

Lateness can be avoided. Please ensure you arrive on time everyday, both for your children and their friends.

    Thank you

    Mrs Harding

  • How much of a difference can we make together?

    Tue 04 May 2021 S Harding

HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE CAN WE MAKE TOGETHER?

Did you know that swapping beef mince for Quorn mince for just one meal - you help save Greenhouse Gas emissions equivalent to enough electricity to charge your phone for nearly 2 years!

Our school caterer, Eat Culture are working with Quorn to promote the Swap It campaign this May.

We are asking children to swap their usual meat school meal for a delicious vegetarian meal to reduce our carbon footprint. We are doing this as part of our commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2028.

During May, we will be recording the number of meal swaps the children have made in school. We’ll put the number of swaps into Quorn’s sustainability calculator and show the children how much carbon dioxide emissions they have saved!

For more information, please explore the attached document and watch Quorn's short video.
