Inclusion & SEND

A message from Mrs Louisa Arnold, our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo):

"We want everyone at Burford to feel like they belong and that your children can be their authentic selves, so that they can be happy, learn well and make good progress. We are committed to developing the knowledge and skills of our adult team, with my support, so that they are experts in making our curriculum equitable and inclusive for your children. We want to work with families to ensure that we make curriculum adaptations which enable your children to thrive!  You will be fully involved in the decision-making process about their support and what we want to achieve together. For further information, please see the documents below!"

A message from Ms Heather Chapleo, our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Leader (DEIB):

"We are on a journey to develop a truly inclusive and equitable culture at Burford. This will never be finished! We will continue to learn and evolve. Our mission is to ensure that our schools is a place in which every member of #TeamBurford feels that they belong. This will only happen if we ensure we are a community in which people can show up as their authentic selves, that they will be welcomed and nurtured, that diversity is celebrated, and that this is a safe environment in which to try and make mistakes.

Our adult team continue to learn from others' authentic lived experiences and use this to improve our own practice. We also share our knowledge and skills with the children.

We have designed a curriculum which seeks to represent myriad perspectives and amplify voices that may have otherwise been 'othered'. Our children are encouraged to be reflective, empathetic and kind."
