As a school, we believe good punctuality and attendance are the essential first steps on the road to success in life.
To ensure all our pupils develop good attendance and punctuality habits, we closely track the attendance of all our pupils and intervene early if an issue begins to emerge.
The issues of attendance and punctuality have a high profile in school. Good attendance and punctuality are encouraged in a number of positive ways.For example, the class with the best attendance at the end of each week is made aware of this in assembly.This information is recorded and leads to the three classes with the best attendance at the end of each half term receiving a prize.
The myriad of attendance initiatives in school have led to Burford achieving a high level of attendance over the past few years.We expect to meet, or surpass, national attendance rates each year.
In 2015 / 2016 our overall attendance was 96.6%.
We want the children at Burford to aspire to be the best that they can, both personally and academically.
We want to open their eyes to the possibilities that lie beyond their own experience.
We do that by regularly organising class trips, residentials and outside speakers so our children can access a wide variety of experiences.
The children at Burford also take part in a wide variety of extra curricular activities such as competitive team sports, Glee Club and Burford News.
Children at Burford are regularly set short term learning goals to achieve.
We discuss with children what they aspire to be today, tomorrow and in later life and talk about what they need to do to achieve those dreams.
We believe achievement is taking part in activities and trying one’s absolute best at all times.
We also believe achievement is learning how to cope with disappointment and losing in a mature and dignified manner.
We believe that if our children try their best at all times and view disappointment and losing as a spur to do better then they will go on to achieve their potential.
The children at Burford are helped to achieve their goals by the demands we place on ourselves and the demands we place on the children.
As a staff, we work tirelessly to ensure there are always high standards of teaching and learning in school.
We ensure a high quality learning environment.
We expect the children at Burford to show good standards of behaviour and self discipline.
We help them achieve these aims in a number of ways.For example, we employ a counselling service in school called Place2Be.
We believe our children can achieve in a number of ways, both collectively and individually.
In academic terms, we expect our children to meet, or surpass, national standards in reading, writing and maths by the time they leave us at the end of Key Stage 2.
We expect the children who represent Burford in competitive sports to play to win but accept defeat gracefully and sportingly.
We expect members of our Glee Club to perform to the highest possible standards.
